St George & the English Martyrs

Charities

Many charities are supported by the parish community.  Here are just a few of our regularly supported causes.  Please refer to the parish newsletter for current appeals.

  • ACROSS

ACROSS is an organisation based in Scotland that provides specialised travel for people who are sick, disabled or terminally ill and cannot travel any other way. The main place of travel to is Lourdes, located in the Pyrenees in the south of France.

  • Missio - APF

Missio is the new name for the Pontifical Mission Societies in England and Wales, which includes the Association for the Propagation of the Faith (APF) and St Joseph’s Missionary Society (Mill Hill). Supporters pray for the work of the Missions and help to finance that work, either donating by Direct Debit or contributing by having their own collection box. There are currently 79 Red Box holders in the parish.

  • BCCS

The Brentwood Catholic Children's Society was established in 1984, following the closure of two nearby children's homes, Fr. John Armitage formed the Brentwood Catholic Children's Society to give immediate, unconditional help and care to those children and families in need.

If you would like to support the Brentwood Catholic Children's Society, be it through your time, with a donation, leaving a legacy or through a corporate partnership, then you would be helping to sustain our work in providing care and time for children suffering abuse, neglect, poverty, family separation, bereavement or any other social ill.

  • CAFOD

CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) is the official charity of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. It is currently working with 75 projects in 40 countries.

There are two annual appeals to the parish; the Lenten Fast Day Appeal at the beginning of March and the Harvest Appeal at the beginning of October.

  • HCPT 192

Every Easter, the Trust takes to Lourdes over two thousand children with special needs, from the UK, Ireland, Slovakia and even as far away as the West Indies. Together they spend a week on a joyful pilgrimage filled with love and laughter.

The Trust is organised into 'Family Groups' each with a leader, a nurse, a priest and a number of voluntary helpers who care for the children during the week. Group 192 is based here in our Parish. The group leader and a number of the helpers are members of our parish community

OUR TWINNED PARISH of mpuluzi

We continue to support our twin parish of Mpuluzi in prayer and by financing a special project. Our commitment is to help them provide much needed washing/showering facilities at the Mayflower crèche / day centre to allow youth and adult parish groups to meet.
